*inspired by a recipe from Andrea Bemis who was inspired by Gwyneth Paltrow’s recipe.
Serves 4 as a side
Prep :10 mins
Cook time : 25 mins
1 bunch turnips, (6-7 Japanese salad turnips) small ones left whole and larger ones sliced in half or quarters
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 tablespoon white miso paste
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup (or honey)
2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds (optional)
Spring onion and coriander for garnish (optional)
Preheat the oven to 190C.
Toss the turnips with olive oil and salt on a rimmed baking sheet and roast for about 15-20 minutes.
Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, melt together the butter, miso and maple syrup over medium heat.
Coat the turnips with the miso mixture and broil until beginning to brown, 3-5 minutes.
Garnish with toasted sesame seeds, if desired.
*These are fairly sweet so feel free to adjust the seasoning to suit your taste.
**I think this same preparation would be great on green beans as well.
